WSP 236 Job Song

about

I decided to call this song 'Job Song' instead of 'Work Song' even though 'Work Song' sounds better phonetically. There's a big difference between those two words as I'm sure many of you know.

I started writing this song when I was unemployed a couple years ago. Jeesh, it's rough out there. Good luck to us all.

No video this week, here's a link to the audio: jonathanburks.bandcamp.com/track/wsp-0236-job-song

thanks for tuning in!

lyrics

let me keep my dignity
I’ll give you my time
an honest day for honest pay
shouldn’t be this hard to find

it ain’t the task that’s hard to do
but all the loops you have to punch through
can’t just do a thing and go home
you have to beg for that bone

you need them more than they need you
that simple math ain’t so hard to do
upper hand and a bottom line
the monkey in the middle is you

let me keep my dignity
I’ll give you my time
an honest day for honest pay
shouldn’t be this hard to find

40 hours don’t buy a lot
better get a roommate or a second job
in a neighborhood where you might get shot
still just scraping by

got insurance but can’t get sick
deductible’s about 10 months rent
chewed up tongue and a battered spine
walking that company line

let me keep my dignity
I’ll give you my time
an honest day for honest pay
shouldn’t be this hard to find

"When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro"

here's some pro tips:

1) Keep a scream journal. Scream into a camera or microphone at least once a day. Any word or sound will work. "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK" seems to work for me.

2) Dance for 5 minutes daily. Dance on the way to the bathroom or kitchen. Dance as ugly as you can.

3) Make funny faces. Sit in front of a mirror and get strange.
