WSP 240 Moth Song

from Weekly Song Project v3 by Jonathan Burks

/

lyrics

there's a moth trying hard to navigate but it's dark
and the only thing open's a flame
well it's sharp and it's mean but it's giving heat
and that's where he's gonna blaze
he'll burn till he's gone, like a shadow on the lawn
till the sun strip him away
in a hot whiff of ether he'll sing himself to sleep
and get up and do it again

my mind spies a young man with no kind of plan
drinking in an alleyway
in a good ol' lake town on midwestern ground
where the tribes used to gather and trade
he's feeling quite small, like there's no point at all
don't every thing get taken away
so stupid and sweet, lazily dreaming
drunk in an alleyway

now when he moves his mouth don't nothing come out
but another tired country cliche
with a dog long dead and no wife in his bed
he figures he'll move away
the years pass by and his shoes they fly
but his feet can't find their place
like a moth to the flame
every fall from grace ends the same
